Bike-Ped Committee
The BikePed Committee meets once a month. Bring your bicycle/pedestrian topics for discussion to the Chair prior to each meeting.
Complete Streets
South Portland passed a Complete Streets Policy (PDF) in October 2017, demonstrating the City's commitment to creating streets that are accessible for all modes of travel and safe and convenient for all. In the spring of 2024 the City adopted a Street Design Technical Manual (PDF) that will play a role in guiding which street design elements and dimensions are appropriate for use.
Neighborhood Byways
Our goal is to support safe routes for walking, biking, scootering, skateboarding and any other type of active transportation in South Portland. Our first route, the Thornton-Cash Byway, connects the Thornton Heights, Cash Corner, and Ligonia neighborhoods to the middle school using local streets and trail connections as much as possible to create an alternative to busier arterials.

Rideshare Initiatives
Mainers can use the GOMAINE tool to find rideshare rides throughout the state. There are hundreds of users each week, with options for a one-time trip or a recurring commute. Mainers can also use GOMAINE to log their sustainable commutes to earn rewards each week.
