New Food Establishment Information

How to get started:

  1. Visit the City's Licensing page for information regarding required City approvals 
  2. Fill out and submit with payment the attached State Application (PDF)

  4. MDA License - ME Department of Agriculture.
  5. Draw a diagram of the facility, you will want to include: the proposed table placement, bathroom facilities, kitchen setup, storage area(s), and waste disposal. Document on your diagram the proposed "flow of food" (from receiving, storage, prep to serving). Larger establishments may require a sealed architectural drawing.
  6. Servsafe Certification: This is a mandatory certification that your establishment must have in order or proceed with your State licensing. 
  7. Submit a Change of Occupancy (or Ownership) application to the Code Enforcement Office. Building Permit/Change of Occupancy Application.
  8. Please note: The State License will have to be issued before the City License can be issued, so please make sure you submit the State application as soon as possible. The State does have a 30-day turnaround time.
