Comprehensive Plan Update December 5, 2024

Boards & Committees News Posted on December 05, 2024

Stay engaged with the City’s new Comprehensive Plan in the making! The Comp Plan will serve as the foundational document guiding the next 10+ years of growth and development across the community, defining a collaborative vision of South Portland’s future.

The Comprehensive Plan Committee (CPC) is made up of 14 South Portland residents, City staff, and elected officials appointed by the City Council. The CPC serves as a guide for the decisions the City must make about growth, development, redevelopment, and change over the coming decade. All CPC meetings are open to the public in person and online via Zoom. Meetings are also live streamed on SPC-TV and online at http://bit.ly/SPCTV_Live. Video recordings of past meetings are available at: https://vimeo.com/channels/1874001

The CPC is currently discussing broad city-wide goals and strategies to guide the City’s policies on future growth and development/redevelopment. At their December 4, 2024 meeting, the committee continued its preliminary discussion about land use policies for South Portland’s eastern waterfront areas, focusing on hazards from coastal flooding, air quality concerns, and allowable land uses. Further discussions about this and other areas will continue over the next six months. The group also held its annual elections, electing Kathleen Egan as Committee Chair, and thanked Peter Stanton for his many years of service as chair. The committee discussed changes to public comment, opting to allow opportunities both during certain agenda items and after to improve the process for community members providing comment while supporting the committee’s ongoing work. Watch the recording of this meeting.

The next CPC meeting will be held on January 8. Please join! Visit the South Portland 2040 website for meeting information and more ways to engage. You can also subscribe to the City’s Meeting Calendar to receive email notices when CPC meetings are scheduled.
