Winter Weather / Plowing Season Reminders!

Public Notices, Updates & Alerts Posted on December 01, 2025

❄️ WINTER PLOWING SEASON REMINDERS ❄️

We're sharing this reminder of the city's winter parking and snow-removal rules to help keep our roads and sidewalks safe and accessible.

Citywide Parking Ban

The overnight the winter parking ban is currently IN EFFECT from 12 AM to 6 AM. Details here: southportland.gov/winterparkingban

Additional emergency daytime parking bans may be called, depending on the weather. These will be posted on social media and via our website. Get parking ban email alerts by signing up for public notices, updates and alerts.

Do you have a question about the city's winter snow removal operations or winter parking ban? Get info in the FAQ.

Public Parking Lots Available

If you need a place to park during the ban, designated public lots are available for overnight parking. Please use these lots to avoid tickets or towing. Parking Lots at Waterman Drive, the boat launch, and Willow Street are available. Those parked in public lots must remove their vehicles within 24 hours after the end of a storm (when precipitation ends).

Vehicles Blocking Plowing Will Be Towed

Per ordinance Sec. 15-217, any vehicle hindering plowing may be towed at the owner’s expense to allow crews to safely clear the roads.

Don’t Plow Snow Into Sidewalks or the City Right-of-Way

Ordinance Sec. 23-12 prohibits placing snow or ice onto public streets, sidewalks, or property across the street. This includes snow pushed by contractors—property owners are responsible for their contractor’s actions.

Remove Items From the Right-of-Way

Please remove any items from the city right-of-way so plow crews can work safely and efficiently. If you are unsure where the boundaries are, contact Public Works. The city shall not be liable for damages to structures left in the public right-of-way (Code of Ordinances, ch. 23, sec. 23-11).

Garbage & Recycling Pick-Up During Snow Events

Casella, the company we contract with for garbage and recyling collection, determines whether its regular pick-up schedule will be disrupted due to a storm. If they notify us of a change, Public Works will post on its Facebook page.
